Licensing

Any individual or business involved in the placement of insurance contracts (commonly referred to as “selling insurance”) in Nova Scotia must be licensed.  Licenses are issued for agents, adjusters, agencies and insurance companies.

The Office of the Superintendent for Insurance has the responsibility for regulating and licensing the insurance industry.  Licensing requirements are set out in the Insurance Act and accompanying Regulations.
