Property Tax Rates & Assessment

The provincial government sets the legislative framework for property taxes and assessments in Nova Scotia through the Municipal Government Act, the Assessment Act, the Wind Turbine Taxation Act and through the Capped Assessment Program.  Roughly three-quarters of municipal revenue is generated through property taxes.  Property taxes help to pay for services such as recycling, garbage collection, drinking and waste water, new roads and repairs, police and fire services, and libraries.
