NS GAMING CORP.--FIRST-QUARTER NET INCOME OF $31.2 MILLION

The Nova Scotia Gaming Corp. is reporting net income of $31.2
million for the first quarter ended June 30, 1997, up four per
cent from the same quarter in 1996.
The Atlantic Lottery Corp. generated profit of $29.4 million in
the first quarter, compared with $27.4 million for the same
year-ago period.
Casino revenue before taxes increased in Halifax by 15 per cent
and at the Sydney casino by 25 per cent.
"The Sydney casino has more than turned the corner as profits
available for distribution total $452,401," said corporation
chair Ralph Fiske. "This, combined with the profit achieved at
year-end, would more than support the expectation of $1 million
being available for distribution to eligible First Nation bands
and qualified charities."
