Snow Sport Helmet Regulations

made under Section 10 of the

Snow Sport Helmet Act

S.N.S. 2011, c. 47

O.I.C. 2012-337 (October 30, 2012, effective November 1, 2012), N.S. Reg. 206/2012


Citation

1     These regulations may be cited as the Snow Sport Helmet Regulations.


Helmet standards

2     A helmet required by subsection 5(1) of the Act must meet the standards set out in the latest edition of the standards for helmets for recreational skiing and snowboarding of 1 or more of the following certification agencies:

 

                (a)    American Society for Testing and Materials;

 

                (b)    Central European Committee for Standardization;

 

                (c)    Canadian Standards Association;

 

                (d)    Snell Memorial Foundation.


Notification signs

3     (1)    A notification sign required by subsection 6(1) of the Act must be in the form set out in Appendix A and must measure 46 cm in width and 61 cm in height.

 

       (2)    A notification sign must be displayed at a point of purchase in accordance with all of the following conditions:

 

                (a)    it must be displayed within 1 m of each cash register where lift tickets are for sale;

 

                (b)    it must be readily legible and unobstructed;

 

                (c)    it must be clearly visible to the customer at the point of purchase.

 

       (3)    A notification sign must be displayed at a lift entrance in accordance with all of the following conditions:

 

                (a)    it must be displayed at the entrance to all ski lifts;

 

                (b)    it must be clearly visible to persons before loading the ski lift;

 

                (c)    it must be readily legible and unobstructed.

 

       (4)    Notification signs must be obtained from the Department of Health and Wellness.

NOTICE


NOVA SCOTIA LAW REQUIRES

ALL SKIERS AND SNOWBOARDERS

TO WEAR A PROPERLY FITTED

AND SECURELY FASTENED

SKI OR SNOWBOARD HELMET.


Helmets must meet one of the following standards:


ASTM

CEN

CSA

Snell
